Are you interested in literary salon discussions & my research notes?
Questions on how I can make this a more enlightened space.
Good morning!
I have two quick questions for you:
Are you interested in weekly literary salon discussions?
I’ve been wanting to host weekly discussion threads for a while, but I've been hesitant to send a third post in the week. Right now, the number one reason people stop paying for my newsletter is because they don't have time to read everything I send and I don’t want to overload everyone.
But I WOULD love to have more conversations with you, and Carlos recently requested them as a fun way to have literary salon discussions that aren’t limited to the topics in my essays and novel chapters. I could very easily send Wednesday literary salon discussions for paying subscribers.
Would you be interested in that?
Are you interested in my research notes?
About a month ago I started experimenting with a new section at the bottom of my essays called “Marginalia” where I share all of my research notes on the things I’ve been reading and studying.
These sections make my posts insanely long so I’ve been limiting them in size, but I actually have so much more I could put in them. I could, for example, share my research notes from every utopian novel I read, the books that I’m reading and thinking about, and the topics I’m studying. Like a more expanded Marginalia.
My question is whether that would be valuable to you? Do you like to read the more in-depth notes from my research? If so, I can either keep short Marginalia notes at the bottom of my essays or write longer independent Marginalia posts with all of my notes from a particular topic or book. I would keep the longer posts every other Friday (when I don’t have fiction) so you would still only receive two posts a week.
If you’re not interested in my notes from my research, I don’t have to include my notes at all and can just send you my essays and fiction!
Let me know what you’d prefer:
Do you have any other feedback for me so far? And for how we could make this a more enlightened space? If so, please feel to provide that in the comments below.
