"work hours" is a fuzzy concept for me as a remote work contractor. I decide when and how to work, so there is no set time. I typically work in 2 hour 'shifts' interspersed throughout the day.
When I am working on a difficult problem, I often take walks, but I still consider this work time because my mind is devoted to the task, even if I'm not at my desk.
I'd rather not put too much in writing, which is a weird new thing I'm discovering about myself given state of tech or the world, but I work just as much now as I did before covid (> 40 hours / week, basically always on call), everyone's exponentially less productive in office (at least in terms of velocity), and AI / automations just result in new chores IMHO which aren't meaningfully different in nature than the chores they replace. Engineering, b2b saas.
Some of the questions should maybe be on more of a scale. And the one about how we spend our spare time - most probably do a combo of all those things. Easy enough to assume it's the closest best answer you want, so just some minor feedback there.
Yeah, I figured it would probably be easier to get a clear picture if we went for the closest thing, rather than a range of things. But there are tradeoffs for sure!
Is this where we can share how much we loath open-floor office plans, lol. And add to that multiple Skype chatrooms? Dear goodness.... I want frosted hologram cubicle dividers please. :)
I have a good separation between my sacred work time and personal time. I don't hesitate to do some personal things at work if there's time in my workday, but mostly I work hard then go home. If my workload is light I'll leave early.

I'll be interested in more nuanced results! My pay range is low by US standards but it's average for Japan, where I live & work.
Yeah it’s hard to make that question work globally!

Same with whether coworkers work more hours or get more done. Some do, most don't.
It's hard to know for sure…

Whoops, I didn't read the instructions 🤦 (only answered the first one)

Ha! Yes open-floor offices are the absolute worst. I second your request for frosted dividers!
