Thank you so much for your input when I asked whether you actually read serial novels online. You confirmed my suspicion that Substack is much better suited to short fiction, or at most novellas. Maybe the internet in general is.
Based on your feedback, I have decided to make Oblivion a novella. Once it’s complete, I will open it up to you to write your own utopian fiction, either within that same utopian world, or your own. Just like we’re doing with the essays, I will share your stories with my readers and add them to the index for the Oblivion project. My favorites will eventually make it into the print edition.
Speaking of the print edition, I’m so excited to debut the cover art for my Oblivion project!
Here’s what the Oblivion books will look like!
Amanda Nogales designed these beautiful softcover books for the Oblivion collection, and I couldn’t be more excited about them.
As of right now, I’m planning three books: a collection of utopian fiction, a collection of essays imagining a more beautiful future, and a collection of utopian philosophy. My subscribers at the collector tier will receive one copy per each year of subscription.
The first collectors to reach $1,000 in investment (either by subscribing as a collector for four years in a row or by penciling in a higher amount to your collector subscription) will be able to write the introduction to one of those books (2 of 3 remaining!).
These books are still very much a work in progress and may take a while to come out. But I am so excited to continue exploring utopia with you, by writing fiction, writing essays, and studying utopian thought together.
Thanks for being here,
Elle
