Every new technology inspires science fiction writers to think up all the ways it could be used for evil—how many times have we read about AI taking over the whole world or even leading to human extinction? I wanted to flip that script and take this opportunity to think up something better.
For our August writing prompt: Write a short story that uses technology for good, not evil! (Any technology of your choice!) Publish it to your Substack newsletter sometime during the month of August, then share the link to your story in the comments here 👇🏻
I’ll be writing one alongside you and I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Read July’s ecotopia stories!
July’s writing prompt was to write an ecotopia inspired by socialist utopias. I know there are a few more stories coming (share the link to your stories in the comments of this post once you’ve published them!) but here are a few of the short stories we’ve written so far:
I wrote a short story that took place in a future Maui where there is no private land ownership
- wrote a short story that imagines Cuba becomes almost entirely rewilded (and what a twist ending!)
- wrote a short story about how seeds will become an important part of our future
I’m excited to read these prompts. I’m starting to lose hope when it comes to the future of AI.
