I think you are brilliant. The weird part about all of this Elle, is I got your reply just as I was thinking today about the future of NFT marketplaces and the Creator Economy. I love it!

Would love to participate. A bit out of my league financially at the moment. Just joined here after listening to your interview with Joanna Penn. Great inspiration. I’ll get started very soon. Let’s see what happens.

You don’t have to pay anything to participate! Just join in on Twitter! And I think there is still mloot available for $2. In any case, thanks for subscribing!!! That was a fun podcast episode....

You are welcome. Started reading your novel. Something special about your voice. I can’t quite pinpoint it yet. Enjoying immensely I have been out of action, waiting for web 3. I am getting set up. I will check it out again. Tried to connect MetaMask wallet and it won’t work. Once I get over the technical difficulties, I’ll try again for mloot. Thank you for the inspiration. It’s great to get guidance.

Oh thank you so much!!!!!! I’m so glad you are enjoying my novel. I know the tech can be difficult. Hopefully that gets easier as the tech develops. I had to try a few times as well before I figured it out!

Hi, When clicking through to the loot, the bags either seem to have no price (or are $1000s). How does one buy one of the unpriced ones? And does that come with a hefty gas bill?

Expand full comment

Hi, the gas bill is dependant on ETH network congestion, but please check your purchase to make sure that you arent being ripped off in regards to Genesis Mana. A lot of sellers are taking advantage of the poorly communicated GM property.

Sort by "price low to high"!! The lowest one right now looks like it's $2!

What a cool concept! Using Twitter for each character is clever twist. And your "jump in and sink or swim" experiments in publishing are very inspiring.

I do like the idea of collaborative writing and have done some in the past with multiple writers taking turns writing chapters in a wacky noir story. But I think crypto/web3 needs to be far simpler, with a lower threshold of learning and cost of entry, before most writers will get involved. Blockchain has been the promised savior for musicians for about a decade, but little substance has materialized from those predictions. I hope it works out better for writers.

I do look forward to seeing where this all goes, though. Hopefully, we will see the "novel of the future" in the NEAR future. 🤓

Agree! I found the cost of initializing a wallet via opensea is prohibitive and the lingo is indeed "cryptic". I like the idea of using twitter for a character space, but wonder how the story flow will be with postings. Looking forward to trying it!

The "gas" is definitely prohibitive. It cost me $50 just to mint the NFT for Friday. I think the publishing platform of the future should not be built on ethereum for this very reason......

If crypto becomes as easy as using Venmo then it will be usable for most writers. But as you said, it is too expensive and “techie” at the moment. Although it is interesting to watch Elle, who is willing to devote the money and the time to learning "Web3." I am sure she will reap the rewards. It is just too much for me at the moment.

I will admit that I earned $1000 in ethereum to write for the original DAO. Then it cost me $50 to purchase my mloot and another $50 to mint the NFT for Friday. So I'm net positive on this project so far. But yes, it is expensive to do pretty much anything on the ethereum network so it's definitely not ready for mass adoption!

Still on the plus side though! (I remember buying my first .com domain for over $100.00 in the early days of the internet! )

I enjoyed your entry the Omen, on your mirror site. I wonder how does one make their mirror content discoverable? It doesn't seem like the mirror.xyz site has a community search function?

:-) yes Elle is opening many "opportunity doors" for writers!

Thanks!!! I know, I like it too. And I agree that it's a little too hard to play in this space right now, but hopefully that will change! In any case, novel of the future details coming soon!

This is so, so creative and inspiring...to watch someone else do! haha! The ins and outs of the project make my head spin a bit in a way that would feel overwhelming to participate in myself, but it really is fun to watch others shine with this particular brand of creativity.

Great experiment and community! IMO, it's all about building a community, so I would recommend trying to enable people to participate in the experiment as easily as possible. Some ways: voting, sharing on social, etc
