Cool! Re holding our breath, I'm reminded of Karen Russell's lovely short story, The Gondoliers, set in a flooded Florida where a group of sisters have evolved and adapted for the aquatic environment. (Karen Russell may also be a good inspiration for the surreal vibe you're aiming for)
Alright! I need to go back and read the other chapters! Beautiful and intriguing. 💙
I think your choice of storing data “on” the water instead of “in” the water is interesting. Is that a nod to the way we language data storage currently (“on severs” for example)?
Thanks! Yes, I used "on the water" in my description, the way we say "on servers," but in the novel itself I use "in the water" because it's more of a magic system.
Images conjured of the Pensive in Harry Potter, of my first salvia trip when I really saw water for maybe the first time, and of a single water molecule holding the secrets to the universe ... the music fit perfectly. Now you make me think I should compose some tracks to my fiction, too ... killer work, also shout out to Fogchaser!

Oh you're right about the pensive! (And yes you should totally compose music for your fiction....)
An internet of water is such a cool concept. I love it!
I love it too! :)
