Writing Prompt: Invent a future holiday
What rituals will sustain us?
When I was a practicing Catholic I adored the season of Advent. The story of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus from the book of Luke. The wreath on our table with a new candle lit every week. The Marian iconography.
But as we approach the season this year, I found myself wondering what kind of holidays we might be celebrating 10,000 years from now. After all, the Jesus story is only 2,000 years old. Might we have new versions by then?
So I want you to invent a new holiday—one for the future. It can be religious or secular. It can be based on a new myth or an old one. Maybe there is a new prophecy, a new book of the bible, even a new religion. Maybe no religion at all.
What will we celebrate? What myths will sustain us in the future?

Your visions for the future of technology
My last prompt was to imagine the ideal future of technology.
I wrote about how technology powers everything in the background for the 12th chapter of my utopian novel.
wrote an anti-tech utopia in “technology as a historical oddity.” I loved ’s response in the comments: “It’s funny how I was nodding along to the points made by the characters as I read this on my smartphone 😂.” wrote a piece about a tech-free future. After a solar flare knocked out all technology, a child asks her grandpa what life used to be like with technology.’s very first Substack post (welcome!!!!) was his vision for bringing back organic humans. wrote Surveillance to Sovereignty, about the decentralization of technology.

I wish there was soon a future in which we could celebrate the arrival on Mars and the discovery of new intelligent life forms with which we could collaborate in the exploration of the Universe
